On July 30, 2014, during his visit in Hong Kong, Mr. Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC met with Mr. Rimsky Yuen, Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong SAR upon invitation. Liu Fenghua, CCPIT’s Chief Representative in Hong Kong, Wang Wenying, Secretary-General of CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center, Yao Junyi, Director of CIETAC Supervision and Coordination Division, commissioner Pan Yingxian, commissioner Li Bocheng, commissioner Zhang Xiuxia of the Department of Justice, Hong Kong SAR attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Mr. Yu introduced the key issues on the reform agenda of CIETAC, the selection of CIETAC arbitrators and the development of CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center since its establishment. He expressed gratitude to the Department of Justice and Secretary Rimsky Yuen for their support to the development of CIETAC in Hong Kong and its Hong Kong Arbitration Center and hoped that with the support of the Department of Justice, CMAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center would be set up at an early date which would act as a new platform to resolve maritime disputes in Hong Kong and the Asian-Pacific Region. Mr. Yuen introduced to Mr.Yu the work done by the SAR government in facilitating the arbitration and mediation undertakings and the government’s future work agenda in this field. Mr. Yuen said that the Department of Justice would continue to support CIETAC and its Hong Kong Arbitration Center to develop their business in Hong Kong, and hoped that CIETAC and its Hong Kong Arbitration Center would play a bigger part in strengthening the ties between mainland and Hong Kong in the field of arbitration and in promoting the development of the Chinese arbitration undertakings in the future.

The two sides agreed that CIETAC and the Department of Justice of Hong Kong should strengthen their cooperation and mutual support so as to make their voices heard in mainland, Hong Kong and the Asian-Pacific Region. The two sides also exchanged their views on the enforcement of foreign and Hong Kong arbitral award in mainland China, the enforcement of the Chinese arbitral award overseas and the combination of arbitration and mediation.
